Christian Counseling in NJ & NY
Therapy for women who want to add a Christian perspective to their counseling experience
Feeling like your faith in God is being tested when you’re giving in to anxiety?
Having a hard time seeing yourself the way He sees you?
Doing “all the things” because it’s the “Christian thing to do”?
From the outside, it looks like you have it all together. But you’ve been struggling lately. The pressure to be perfect is almost unbearable and meeting everyone’s expectations is impossible. And there’s this brokenness inside that you can’t seem to get past. You know that leaning into the Lord with your struggles will help, but you try to handle things on your own instead. Controlling things gives you a sense of safety and security. It hasn’t been working out so well. And you’re still wondering where God is in all this.
You’re looking for a counselor that is Christian because you:
Know that God needs to be involved in counseling in order to see lasting change
Value your faith too much to exclude it from your treatment
Need a different perspective by considering psychology and spirituality working together in harmony
Are looking for someone who can effectively weave your Christian faith into sessions without bringing all your problems back to a faith-based issue
Christian Counseling could be the answer
You know what you need. You need tools PLUS God. They are not mutually exclusive, and you can have both. If you could just find the right therapist who could offer that, you’d feel like you were in good hands and could trust the process a bit more. You’d feel confident enough to lean into it; to let go.
We weren’t designed to do life alone. God built us to be in relationship with others.
Therapy should be no different.
Since counseling with me includes your faith, you can know that your walk with the Lord is being considered and honored in this space. We will walk together through the struggles you’re facing, incorporating your Christian faith where we can. I’ll never over-spiritualize your situation. It’s unique to you and I get that. My specialty in Christian counseling comes from a desire to serve: understanding that you are looking for a counselor who holds similar values and perspectives rooted in Christianity and who can delicately integrate psychology and spirituality.
Christian Counseling provides:
Counseling from a licensed clinician who understands your faith perspective and incorporates it without over-spiritualizing everything
A sense of peace in knowing that you are able to get the help you need without separating mental health and faith
A way to connect with yourself and God so you can start to become the woman He has called you to be
What to expect from Christian Counseling with me:
A relatable licensed counselor who shares a similar perspective/worldview
Laid-back use of Christian faith as a strength when it’s needed
Gentle integration of mind and spirit, using effective clinical strategies coupled with faith-based rationale
What NOT to expect from Christian Counseling with me:
Scripture reading and prayer in and throughout sessions
Stuffy or rigid conversations that make whatever you’re going through relate to a spiritual problem
Spiritual advisement that only focuses on your spiritual growth, dismissing clinical mental health issues and the reality of distress
Heather Vignali, MA, LPC, LMHC, NCC, ACS
You don’t have to subtract God from your therapy.
He can be a part of it.

A Christian Counselor might lean into faith and spirituality a bit more than the psychology behind what is going on for you. They might pray, quote scripture and counsel based mainly on Biblical principles.
A Counselor that is Christian holds similar values and perspectives rooted in Christianity, but will not over-spiritualize. They primarily use clinical interventions and sprinkle a little Christian flavor in when and where appropriate.

You certainly could! However, most pastors are not clinically trained to treat mental health. That means that, while you might get support, it might not be as well-rounded as seeing a licensed counselor.
